Alfred Dennis Mathewson is Dean Emeritus of the University of New Mexico School of Law. Dean Mathewson is currently a member of the UNM Interdisciplinary Working Group on Algorithmic Justice, a collaborative effort among faculty from UNM Computer Science, Political Science, Law School, Center for Social Policy, and the Santa Fe Institute. The group identifies mathematical, computational, political, and legal implications of algorithms and data that determine the fate of people in the criminal justice system and other public sectors. He is known in sports law for his work on Title IX and its application to African American female athletes.
Dean Mathewson continues to work on access to law schools and the legal profession for students from underserved communities, and access to legal services for people in underserved communities. He advocates and participates in pipeline programs for youth.
